The Allure of the Contour Wave Brocade: A Fabric Like No Other-Ep 01

At Fabric Lab, we have a lot of fabrics that we love, each with its own unique character. But there’s one fabric that’s consistently a customer favourite, (and one of mine too) – the Contour Wave Brocade. This stunning material has become a go-to choice for both fashion designers and home-sewing enthusiasts. Available in an array of beautiful colorways, it’s a fabric that blends timeless elegance and a splash of the 70’s with a very modern twist, making it perfect for a wide range of projects.

What Is Contour Wave Brocade?

The Contour Wave Brocade is a medium-weight, opaque fabric made from a combination of polyester, nylon, and lurex. Its texture is firm and structured, which gives it a great shape for creating garments that hold their form, like dresses, coats, and even tailored trousers. The fabric is non-stretch, so it has a substantial feel, but it’s still fairly easy to work with. The metallic threads woven in the fabric give it a subtle shimmer and a distinctive, luxurious quality that’s perfect for creating eye-catching designs.

The wave-like pattern that gives this brocade its name is woven directly into the fabric. I really love the way the metallic threads form abstract, flowing lines, almost like contour lines on a map, adding both texture and visual interest. And because of the lurex (a shiny, metallic fibre), the fabric catches the light beautifully, adding a touch of sparkle.
